Yves Saint Laurent’s All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation Review

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Yves Saint Laurent’s All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation ($58), which launched on July 27th, has been garnering a lot of attention online. I was lucky enough to purchase the foundation at my local Sephora before it sold out and have been testing it out for the past two weeks.

So, did it live up to the Internet hype?

According to YSL’s website, the All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation is a “24-hour, full coverage foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 20 [that] provides uninterrupted flawless wear that looks and feels just applied, all-day. No-touch ups required.”

The Good:
  • Fresh scent
  • Lightweight
  • Full coverage
  • Flawless finish
  • No breakouts on my sensitive, oily/combo skin!
  • SPF 20 w/ minor flashbacks Infused w/ skincare benefits
The Bad:
  • Although there are 23 colors available in the collection, the shade range is limited. For reference, I’m currently a NC42 and purchased BD50 Warm Honey (the “tannest” shade). This may work for my NC35 skin tone in the fall/winter time, but for now, it’s too light! However, I made it work with bronzer.
  • This foundation claims to be “mattifying,” but I feel like it wore like demi-matte throughout the day. The oils on my face peaked through about 4 hours of wear.
  • Does not contain a full fluid ounce of product like most liquid foundations. At a price point of $58, this hurt a little.
Final Verdict:
With the hype that surrounded this product, I was expecting more out of YSL’s All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation. However, it wasn’t a terrible product. I feel like this may be better for me in the fall/winter seasons as my face is oilier in the summer time. But with that being said, I liked this foundation and would recommend this product. Despite it not being 100% mattifying, it gave me a flawless finish throughout the day and felt lightweight and gave me full coverage without trying; a win-win-win.

Purchase the All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation on YSL’s website or at Sephora!

  • I’ve tried this product with various applicators: the Beauty Blender Sponge, Artis Mirror Brush, Clinique’s foundation brush, and Real Technique’s buffing brush; and found that the latter worked the best. It only took two pumps to cover my entire face for a “flawless” finish.
  • I would definitely recommend using a primer before application for true lasting results. I personally felt that SmashBox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer worked the best.
