Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Metal Moon and Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush Review, Swatch and Try-On!

Unless you've been living under a rock, Rihanna's makeup line, Fenty Beauty, launched last Friday and I was lucky enough to snag a couple of items I was eyeing during the crazy midnight drop. One of these was the Killawatt highlighters. However, while everyone else was going after "Trophy Wife" I was more than ready to go against the wave and purchase "Metal Moon," a mega-fine white gold powdered highlight, and the Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush 120 to go with it.

So, was Metal Moon able to outshine Trophy Wife?

Claims:
  • Killawatt Highlighter in Metal Moon ($34): This entire line "keeps skin lit beyond sundown with its weightless lonwear formula - a cream-powder hybrid that instantly melts into skin and blends with almost zero effort. It's loaded with superfine shimmer for an ultra-smooth, creamy texture." This product is formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates and is made cruelty-free.
  • Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush ($32): This highlight brush is cut like a shark tooth. It features curves on both sides that 'hugs' your cheeks, brown, cupid's bow, the bridge of your nose, and collarbone. You can now "highlight with more precision and edge."

The Good:
  • Highlighter:
    • Natural finish
    • Buildable
    • Soft powder
    • Suitable for all skin tones and makeup looks
  • Brush
    • Soft bristle
    • Versatile application
The Bad:
  • Highlighter: If you're the type of girl that enjoys a  ridiculously"blinding" highlight (ahem, 'Trophy Wife,' this product may not be for you, as that was not its intended purpose when Rihanna made this. Instead, this highlighter is meant for those wanting a subtle, more natural look.
  • Brush: Can take a couple of tries to get used to. Is it necessary to have out of all the items in her collection? Definitely not, but it works.
Final Verdict:
Single swatch of the highlighter in "Metal Moon"
As blindly white as this product looked in the pan, the Killawatt highlighter in Metal Moon became a beautiful white-gold color on the skin. To everyone who overlooked this item from the line, you missed out on a good one! Although it isn't as "blinding" as Trophy Wife, I feel like that's what I appreciate most about this color; it packs its own punch. Depending on application, this highlighter can easily brighten up your everyday look with one swipe or transform you into a beautiful glazed donut by night. Win-win. It also blends beautifully on the skin; there are no leftover streaks or lines when applying this on top of your makeup.

The Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush is an applicator I have not seen before, but I had to order it to see if it's a gimmick and to my surprise, it was not! It takes a little getting used to when you first apply your highlighter. The sides are all different from each other, but with good reason! With a couple of more tries, I was able to effortlessly apply my highlighter on my skin that blended beautifully. Is it necessary to have? Probably not. But, it's a fun tool to add to your collection if you're a highlighting queen like myself.

Bonus video: What's better than a swatch? Being able to watch the product in action! Below is a Boomerang video I made of me wearing both the foundation from her line (stay tuned for that review!) and the highlighter. Please disregard the dramatic length of the highlight on my cheekbones! First time using the brush, I got too carried away.
