Shiseido WASO Clear Mega-Hydrating Cream - Review

This post was long overdue, I'll admit. In fact, I had this saved in my drafts since January, so apologies on my end. So, instead of starting this post talking about how excited I was to try out the latest product from Shiseido's WASO collection months ago, I'll cut to the chase - I'm already working on my second jar of this stuff.

Claims: According to the Shiseido website, the WASO Clear Mega-Hydrating Cream is a "clear cream that moisture-charges your skin for 24-hours and helps reduce the look of pores and prevent dryness. Formulated with whole Carrot Cells, the nutrients are carefully extracted to keep their wholeness harnessed and to help hydrate skin. Carrots are high in water and nutrients that keep skin looking healthy and moisturized."

Pros:

  • Light-Weight: Although it claims to be a "cream," it doesn't feel or look like it on my skin. After application, my skin does not look oily or feel heavy.
  • Refreshed Skin: This moisturizer definitely helped with the way my skin looked before and after makeup application. It gave my skin a hint of glow and plumping affect as if I sleep 8-hours a day (I can't remember the last time that I've done that).
  • Hydrating: Plain and simple it does what it says it will - hydrate the skin. It's not a miracle product however, but it also hasn't broken out my sensitive skin so that's a win in my book.
  • Scent: Shiseido skincare products all have that distinctive scent to it. Although the WASO Clear Mega-Hydrating Cream did as well, it wasn't overwhelming.

Cons:

  • This product claims to be "for all skin types." But I think it works better for those with normal or oily skin types. I felt like when it came to the colder months of the year or random dry patches on my face, it didn't help much with hydration.
  • It also claims to be a solution for "visible pores and oiliness." Have I noticed that dramatic of a difference on my face where it has helped my oily skin or pores? Nope. It's just like any other moisturizer to me, it hydrates and that's that.

Final thoughts:
First off, the labeling of this product is confusing. This product isn't a cream, at least not any cream that I've ever used. A regular cream is normally heavy to touch and on the skin, but not in this case. Shiseido's WASO Clear Mega-Hydrating Cream is more like a gel with the moisturizing strength of a cream. However, I will admit that it is not for all skin types. It didn't break me out, but when it came to the colder season, I found that this product couldn't keep up with the PNW breeze in December.  So, if you have naturally drier skin than the average, this product may not do much for you.

Overall, for me, it's an amazing product to use throughout the year, just not in the winter time. This moisturizer kept my skin hydrated, feeling light and looking plump and glowy for months on end and that's all I can ask for. I will admit, I haven't been using it this summer as I've been trying out other moisturizers that have been sent to me, but I can always count on this cream to reset my skincare routine when a new product messes with my face. Is it the best moisturizer that I've ever used? Probably not, but it's something I can count on for now.

xoxo,
naomi
