New! Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation (340 OAK) - Review and Swatches!

Shisedo has been on a roll recently with releasing new productions to their makeup collection that specifically targets the millennial audience. Recently, they had released their Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation and I had to get my hands when it launched in August. This was a product that was hyped all throughout social media due to its shade range. For those that are unfamiliar, in the past, Shiseido has only catered to those with a paler complexion.

Thankfully, it's 2019 and they've finally stepped their game up. But did it live up to the hype?

Claims: According to the Shiseido's website, their Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation self-refreshes nonstop with ActiveForce™ technology. [Their] long-wearing fluid foundation synchronizes with skin and helps resist heat, humidity, oil and facial movement to maintain a just-applied, flawless finish that lasts 24 hours. Weightless. Breathable. Blendable. Buildable."

Pros:
  • Coverage: This foundation is advertised as a medium-coverage foundation and that's just how I like it — it covered my imperfections without looking cakey.
  • Finish: If you're hoping for a pure matte foundation, this product may not be the one for you. With my combination skin, it did not emphasize any dry spots and kept my skin looking hydrated and fresh all day. However, I would suggest baking this product or retouching with a face powder if you have oily skin.
  • Long-lasting: I've never worn foundation for 24-hours before and I don't ever plan on trying to anytime soon. However, I did feel like this product lasted a good while on my face without needing any sort of touchups.
  • SPF: I'm always a fan of any product that includes SPF, but please remember that SPF in makeup is not enough to protect you from the rays and that you'll need to apply sunscreen before applying this on your face. Otherwise, I'm happy to say that there are no flashbacks when using this product.

Cons:
  • Buildability: I'm not saying that you can't pack on an extra layer of this product on your face, by all means do it if that's what you like. However, it truly feels like a full-coverage, cakey foundation. The worst feeling ever. It's a medium-coverage foundation and that's how it should be.
  • Transferable: I don't think I've ever tried a true "non-transferable" foundation before, but this did not make the cut. To preface, I like to apply all my foundations with Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. But even with that as the base, I didn't feel like this foundation was any different than the others I've tried.
  • Shade Range: I'm torn between if I should add this to the "Pros" or "Cons" section of this post. On one end, I'm proud of how far Shiseido has gone to include various shades to their line. Honestly, the release of this foundation is impressive and was a shock to me to see my favorite gurus like Jackie Aina be able to wear their products on her face. However, it could still be better as I felt like most of the colors leaned on the paler-side of the spectrum, even for us tan colored girls.
  • Price: For $47, I'm expecting a product to WOW me. I'm not cheap by any means when it comes to purchasing any beauty product, but if it's going to cost me, I'm expecting life-changing results!

Final thoughts:
I will admit, I was a lot more excited going into this than what I got out of it. It's not a terrible foundation by any means, but it also didn't wow me either (especially for being $47!). If you're currently on the market for a new luxury foundation, I say that it wouldn't hurt to give this product a try. For me, I already have a light-medium coverage foundation that I love so much and fits into my daily routine, but I can see myself using this product during the day time when I'm out socializing with my friends and need to amp up my coverage a bit.

Otherwise, I love that Shiseido is branching out in their shade range and products in their makeup collection, so I'm excited to give the others a try!

Have you tried this foundation out yet? What are your thoughts?

xoxo,
naomi
